Give Your Mindset A Shaking….
By Sandy Naidu | February 9, 2008
3 years ago I read a copy of Robert Kiyosaki’s ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’. This is an international best seller and the chances of you having heard of this book are very high. Prior to reading the book I didn’t think the book would teach me anything new. I was always financially inclined. I had goals and worked hard towards achieving them. My attitude towards the book was - “well I am already financially inclined so what is this book going to teach me? Nothing….The book is for people who are bad at looking after their finances.”
But I am so glad that a friend of mine gifted me the book but more importantly I am glad I put aside my attitude towards the book and read the book.
The book begins with Robert’s narration of his childhood days.

He writes about his poor dad (his real dad) and his rich dad (his friend’s dad and his mentor). Robert’s real dad worked for the public service. He worked hard at his job….He was a firm believer in the importance of college degrees…He worked long hours…But the bottom line is he lived from pay cheque to pay cheque. Robert’s mentor dad was a businessman…He too worked hard….But he made his money work harder than he did. And this made all the difference. He built wealth at a phenomenal rate and soon became one of the richest persons in Hawaii.
When Robert was around 9 years old he wanted a part time job and so he asks his friend’s dad for help. His friend’s dad offers him the job but along the way changes his mindset about money. He does this very subtly and through real life examples. This mindset is the key and the foundation to Robert’s success later on in life. This shows how we can affect a child’s mindset and thinking about money at a very early age. In the later chapters Robert writes about how to overcome obstacles, his interesting definitions of assets and liabilities and importance of passive income in building wealth.
I throughly enjoyed reading this book. I not only learned financial skills from this book but also learned some valuable parenting skills. I highly recommend this book. Creating wealth starts with a change in mindset - And this book can help you create the right mindset.
Give the book a go - ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad‘ and share your thoughts with me…..
